THE CONTENT POLISH

Editorial Assessment

($.01–$.04/word)

A big-picture look at your manuscript’s content and structure. Ideal for kicking off the editing process or for checking in to make sure that content revisions have been working the way you hoped and planned!

APPROXIMATE TURNAROUND TIME: 3 weeks

WHAT YOU GET (Deliverables)

  • A letter (1–3 pages) overviewing what works, what doesn’t, and what needs tweaking in your manuscript, highlighting the 3–5 most important areas you should focus on when content editing.
  • In-text comments calling out really great writing and ideas, as well as areas you might want to come back to or build on a bit more.
  • (Optional) 1 forty-five-minute Zoom call to review my suggestions and design a revision plan that works for you. Feeling introverted? No worries, I feel ya. My revisions should be plenty to work off of without a call

Developmental Edit

($.02–$.05/word)

A deep-dive look at your manuscript’s content and structure. Developmental edits put your book’s content under the microscope, making sure that every aspect works toward your manuscript’s stated goals.

APPROXIMATE TURNAROUND TIME: 4 weeks

WHAT YOU GET (Deliverables)

  • A manuscript report (10+ pages) overviewing what works, what doesn’t, and what needs tweaking in your manuscript, including chapter-by-chapter summary and feedback, title feedback, notes on your voice and audience, and a suggested revision plan.
  • In-text comments calling out really great writing and ideas, as well as areas you might want to come back to or build on a bit more. These comments may also include explicit suggestions for revisions to lines, paragraphs, or chapters.
  • (Optional) 1 forty-five-minute Zoom call to review my suggestions and design a revision plan that works for you. Feeling introverted? Again, no worries, I feel ya. My revisions should be plenty to work off of without a call!
  • Developmental edits may also include (where necessary/relevant) mockups of suggested changes, aiming to foster deeper understanding.

THE LANGUAGE POLISH

Copyediting

($.03–$.05/word)

This is what 99% of people think of when we start talkin’ editing. THE TYPO CHECK. A copyedit is a thorough review for mechanical errors in your manuscript: spelling errors, grammar issues, clarity tweaks, all that fun stuff.

APPROXIMATE TURNAROUND TIME: 4 weeks

WHAT YOU GET (Deliverables)

  • A marked-up copy of your manuscript with outright errors corrected using Track Changes and on-the-fence issues or areas you might want to come back to queried using in-text comments.
  • A clean copy of your manuscript with all Track Changes changes accepted. Queries remain in the margins of this one, so that you can easily find and adjust them!
  • A style guide for your manuscript, detailing the stylistic choices I made during my copyedit for your future reference. (If you already had a style guide from previous edits, during this stage I’ll update it for ya!)

Light Copyediting

($.01–$.03/word)

When your manuscript has already been copyedited but you want to make sure it’s really shining, that’s where a light copyedit comes in! It’s what many people might call a proofread—an extra check over an already edited manuscript to make sure that it’s the best it can be, mechanics-wise. Again, this is all about spelling, grammar, and clarity!

APPROXIMATE TURNAROUND TIME: 3 weeks

WHAT YOU GET (Deliverables)

  • A marked-up copy of your manuscript with outright errors corrected using Track Changes and on-the-fence issues or areas you might want to come back to queried using in-text comments.
  • A clean copy of your manuscript with all Track Changes changes accepted. Queries remain in the margins of this one, so that you can easily find and adjust them!
  • A style guide for your manuscript, detailing the stylistic choices I made during my light copyedit for your future reference. (If you already had a style guide from previous edits, during this stage I’ll update it for ya!)

Proofreading

($.01–$.03/word)

Gonna be a total stickler here (it’s okay, you love me for it 💕) and tell you that “proofreading” is basically the most misused term in editing. While often we think it means a light copyedit, a proofread is actually a review of a manuscript after it’s been formatted for publication. So that’s what this service entails! Because the manuscript has already been formatted, this is specifically a check for outright errors and issues introduced during the formatting process.

APPROXIMATE TURNAROUND TIME: 3 weeks

"Yna is amazing to work with! She is the perfect balance of personal and professional. As a first-time author, I had no idea about the ins and outs of publishing, and she worked closely with me through everything. She went above and beyond what would've been expected. I truly believe my book wouldn't have made it to print without her!"

Rachel Pollack, Be Well, Be Whole, Be Free

"Thoughtful, insightful, timely and professional are just a few words to describe Yna! This is my first time self publishing and she has been an invaluable resource not only copy editing my work but being there for any questions I had about the self-publishing process. I would definitely recommend working with her if you can!"

Ryan Smith, Forthcoming Project

"I could not imagine a better editor for my book. I could not imagine this process without you and I am so blessed that our stars aligned. You always saw my elephant in the snake. Yna, you truly are a gift to me and so many."
